Laboratory and computational characterization of pavements, Collection of in-situ climate data to incorporate local climatic effects into design, Assessment of the effect of climate change and extreme events on infrastructure performance, Sustainability, Resilience

Prof Sen’s research interests are in the field of climate change adaptation of urban infrastructure, with a specific focus on pavements. His Lab uses computational and machine learning techniques to quantify how urban infrastructure and the environment interact with each other, with a particular focus on Indian conditions. Within pavements in particular, he looked at how changing climatic conditions affect the performance of rigid pavements and how engineering solutions can be employed to mitigate them. His previous research has focused on reflective pavements as a means to mitigate the urban heat island with consideration of wind and heterogeneous urban morphology. Currently, he is investigating how green and blue infrastructure can be used to improve thermal comfort in cities.
