Dr Kiran C Patel Centre for Sustainable Development

The Dr Kiran C Patel Centre for Sustainable Development (KPCSD) at IIT Gandhinagar undertakes cutting-edge research on sustainability and related challenges of high societal importance. It promotes cost-effective and sustainable solutions through its strong outreach and technology-transfer programmes. 

KPCSD strengthens and complements sustainability research and development activities underway at IITGN across diverse Engineering, Science, and Humanities and Social Science disciplines. The Centre strives to identify, prioritize and lead sustainability-related thrust areas and promote research on sustainability. The Centre enables our faculty and students to develop practical solutions through the integration of advanced research, traditional knowledge and field understanding. It addresses major sustainability challenges and translates them into prototypes, patents, and publications through supporting various research activities of the faculty and students of IITGN.

The Centre enables the implementation/testing/validation of laboratory research in the field and focuses on impactful solutions on campus and its neighbouring communities. It aims to promote networking and collaboration among scholars, policymakers, industry, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders on sustainability.

Mission

  • Identify and conduct interdisciplinary research on sustainability related problems of high societal importance.
  • Develop practical solutions to sustainability challenges by integrating research, traditional knowledge and field understanding, and translate them into prototypes, patents, and publications.
  • Establish an effective technology-transfer programme for sustainability solutions in the field.
  • Implement sustainability solutions on campus and its neighborhood.
  • Develop a strong outreach programme of training, education, awareness
    and community engagement on sustainable livelihood and development.
  • Promote networking and collaboration among scholars, policy makers, industry, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders on sustainability.
  • Promote educational programmes on sustainability at IITGN.

 

What are Sustainable Development Goals?

In 2015, the United Nations member states adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global call of action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030, all people enjoy a good quality of life with prosperity while conserving natural resources. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 interconnected goals with 169 targets and 232 indicators, including the environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
