IITGN faculty members Prof Vimal Mishra and Prof Udit Bhatia contributed to the development of the Gujarat government’s ‘State Action Plan on Climate Change’ which was unveiled on World Environment Day on June 5 by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The plan covers several aspects such as renewable energy, energy conservation, forestry, coastal areas, tribal areas, animal husbandry, agriculture and health. It was prepared by the state’s Climate Change Department in collaboration with experts from IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Gandhinagar.
The report is based on the National Action Plan of Climate Change and India’s Nationally Determined Contribution to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international environment treaty addressing climate change and is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Chief Minister Rupani said that Gujarat was the first state in the country to implement a long-term action plan to address the challenges of climate change.
