Prof Vimal Mishra Wins the prestigious 2021 AGU Devendra Lal Memorial Medal
Prof Vimal Mishra, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at IITGN, has been selected for the prestigious 2021 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Devendra Lal Memorial Medal. AGU, a nonprofit organisation that supports 1,30,000 enthusiasts to experts worldwide in Earth and space sciences, annually recognises a select number of individuals as part of its Honors and Recognition programme. The Devendra Lal Memorial Medal is awarded annually to an early- or mid-career scientist in recognition of outstanding research in Earth and/or space sciences by a scientist belonging to and working in a developing country.

Professor Vimal Mishra, Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at IITGN, has been appointed as an editor of Earth’s Future, a journal of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) from July, 2021 to December, 2024. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has now adopted the methodology developed by him and his team, to correct biases in the system for prediction of potential rainfall, in real-time. IMD predicts rainfall by the computerized model-dependent Global Forecast System (GFS) which is subject to biases and results in inaccurate weather forecasts.

IITGN faculty members Prof Vimal Mishra and Prof Udit Bhatia contributed to the development of the Gujarat government’s ‘State Action Plan on Climate Change’ which was unveiled on World Environment Day on June 5 by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Prof Arup Lal Chakraborty, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at IITGN, has been selected for the Distinguished International Associates Award by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK. The award includes funding of £10,000 over a period of two years and participation in an international network of Distinguished International Associates supported by the Academy through annual events and online engagement opportunities. The Distinguished International Associates award is presented to excellent international engineers from different sectors, who are engaged in cutting-edge engineering research or innovation and have existing research collaborations in the UK that they would like to intensify.
